About Okeene

Okeene is the main town of the native people popular known as the Ebiras.Okeene though wrongly spelled as Okene is located at Kogi State Nigeria. The spelling is certainly the same as that of Oklahoma's Okeene. Similarly the NAME Okeene is derived from two words in the traditional language of the natives (Ebira). Okokoro Une means 'land of Antelopes', its short form is Okoro Une and it evolved to what we now Know as Okeene.
In the world map Okeene is spelled as Okene omiting letter 'e'; this is because when the missionaries came to okeene with the yorubas, another ethnic tribe in Nigeria, they pronounced it wrongly in their own accent and it was documented as such.
